A raid on the premises linked to perfume supplier Piyush Jain has reimbursed R150 crore, so far, IT sources said.
Pictures of the raid show two mountains of money placed in two large cupboards. All bundles were wrapped in a plastic cover and fastened with yellow tape. In each picture there are more than 30 such bundles visible.
Another photo showed IT and GST officials tapping on a flower sheet placed in the middle of the room and surrounded by piles of money, and three-point counters.
The amount of money received is still being calculated.
The attack began on Thursday and is continuing, sources said. They occur in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, as well as in Mumbai and Gujarat.
The raid was initiated by GST (Goods and Services Tax) officials over tax evasion. After data analysis, IT, or Income Tax, the Department was also involved.
GST officials said the money was linked to the shipment of goods by fraudulent invoices and without e-way bills. These fake invoices were created on behalf of the firms under consideration.
These ₹ 50,000 invoices each and more than 200 such invoices - created without GST payments - were obtained from four trucks inside the merchant's warehouse.
All four trucks were seized.
