Janata Dal (United) Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Prasad, better known as `King Mahendra`, passed away after a long illness here on Monday (December 27, 2021).
MP Mahendra Prasad, 81, was having medical treatment at Apollo Hospital in the country's capital for a long time.
Prasad, also known as one of the country's Pharma officials, was a seven-time member of parliament from Bihar. He is one of Rajya Sabha's longest-serving MP.
King Mahendra ran in the by-elections and won his first Lok Sabha by-election in 1980 at the Jehanabad Constituency in Bihar Congress ticket.
He was defeated in the 1984 national election but was elected as Rajya Sabha by then-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1985.
Since 1985, Prasad has been a member of Rajya Sabha until now.
In addition to Congress and JD (U), Prasad was nominated for Rajya Sabha by Janta Dal and Rashtriya Janata Dal.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has expressed deep sorrow over Prasad's death.
