The AAP replaced Anju Katyal as mayor while the BJP suspended Sarabjit Kaur. Both candidates for the position of the mayor are the first.
The position was reserved for a female councilor in the first year of the new MC House.
Earlier on Sunday, the newly elected congressman of Congress, Harpreet Kaur Babla, joined the BJP, days after a vote by Chandigarh Municipal Corporation made the decision.
Harpreet, Ward 10 councilor, has shifted to BJP with her husband and Congress leader Devinder Babla here.
The party needs to win 19 wards for a councilor to be elected mayor.
